2011 December Meeting.

Good evening everyone and thank you for coming along to this our last meeting for 2011.

Welcome to the Yamba Shores Tavern.

Our thanks go to Matt Muir and family of the Yamba Shores Tavern for allowing us to have this meeting at their newly renovated premises which is a credit to them and a wonderful asset for the whole of Yamba. I’ll take this opportunity to congratulate them for picking up three of the four awards that they were nominated for, at the recent Australian Hotels Association NSW Awards for Excellence. Indeed a great result for them and Yamba.

Thank you to Chamber’s Executive committee for all their help and support this year. In my unavoidable absence, they carry on with the workload of all the correspondence and decision making. They do a great job.

We set out this year not only to discuss agenda items but to work on them and get results. There are a number of items that have been achieved  and I mention a few of them.

-Christmas lights have been bought and distributed to willing members to put in their shopfronts to light up our business area at night.

-A Drinking Fountain has been ordered and should be delivered next week. We are hoping for installation before Christmas outside the Bottle shop on the corner of Yamba and Coldstream Streets.

-Parking in Yamba has been a hot topic. We now have regular Council Ranger attendance to try and stop local businesses and their employees from parking in restricted time zones for too long. Visitors and tourists are reluctant to spend money if they cannot park easily in the main streets. There is ample all day  parking for employees in the streets nearby.

-The Chamber’s website is up and running. We are proud of it and it is still work in progress for us. We encourage all members to view it and contact us with any changes to their information. Only members will be listed on it which makes a great reason to join the Chamber.

-We have a new Town Sign at the entrance to Yamba after campaigning for some 10 years. There is mixed reactions to it and we feel it is still work in progress for us.

-Recently we learnt that the bridge at the end of Coldstream Street was to be demolished this January without a replacement being ready or even designed and budgeted for. This bridge is used by hundreds of School children and adults daily. We tackled this and I now believe that a replacement will follow shortly after.

There is more such as Australia Day Awards, garden maintenance in Yamba, Festival support etc but that is enough for now.

Thank you again for attending this last meeting for 2011.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from you Chamber of Commerce
