Seaside holidays offer lazy days in the sun, exploring the many rock pools and surfing the waves, but their are hidden dangers.

If this is your first family holiday at the beach make it your business to learn and teach your children about surf conditions. If you don't know yourself ask a lifeguard or a lifesaver to explain about rips and currents.

There are three beaches patrolled in Yamba Main Beach, Turners and Pippis.

Don't let your children go to the beach unsupervised and don't assume the lifeguard or lifesaver is a cheap baby sitting service. Remember if you or a family member get into difficulty in the water the person who is attempting the rescue is risking their life own life to save yours.

Every member of the family can find at least one beach they love in Yamba. Be it flat surf for babies and young children, or something with a bit more grunt for the more serious surfer at Angourie, or maybe you like the idea of swimming in a large salt water or fresh water rock pool. Exploring the coastline for crabs, shells or sea cucumber will keep the kids busy for days and it's all free.
